Motorola Moto E (3Gen): You Should Buy

Motorola decided to launch a variant of its budget smartphone, the Motorola Moto  (Gen 3) . New upcoming Moto E (Gen 3) has more features (arround 41%) than the  Motorola Moto E (Gen 2).

The Moto E (Gen 3) goes up against formidable competition such as the Samsung Galaxy J7,Xiaomi Mi5,Lenovo K3,Samsung Galaxy J3 etc.Read on to find out how Motorola's contender fares.

Design & Display

It is one of sturdiest and best-looking smartphones in this price range. The Moto E (3Gen) has a 5-inch screen, and is 4.1mm thick. Most of the front face is taken up by the screen, with the sides in particular having only narrow bezels. The "chin" of the phone is more pronounced, but nothing out of the ordinary.
By providing a full-HD panel on the 5-inch display,Motorola has eliminated the need for this compromise. The display on the Moto E (3Gen) - looks sharp when compared to smartphones of a similar size and price bracket. The colour reproduction and viewing angles were satisfactory and outdoor visibility under soft, natural light was quite good as well.

Specifications

This is where things are slightly different. The Moto E (3rdGen) has 1.7 GHz,QuadCore, Qualcomm MSM8936, Snapdragon 610 processor with Andreno 405 graphics. This is definitely much more powerful than the quad-core Snapdragon 200.The Moto E (Gen 3) has 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage space, which can be expanded by up to 128GB using a microSD card. Furthermore, the Micro-USB port can be used with USB-OTG storage devices.

Has Dual Sim, Use multiple sims at the same time. It allows you to use two services without the need to carry two mobile phones at the same time. The other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The phone has a 8-megapixel primary camera and a 2MP camera for selfies. There is a large 2500mAh battery providing the juice for the phone.Moto E (3Gen)  runs on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Performance and camera

The Moto E (3rd Gen) on its own is a decent performer.However, it's preformance Samsung Galaxy J7,Xiaomi Mi5,Lenovo K3,Samsung Galaxy J3 etc.

Even the benchmark results were much better. In AnTuTu and GFXBench, the phone scored 30,241 and 20,925 respectively. These numbers are even higher than other smart phones. In 3DMark Ice Storm and GFXbench, the Moto E (Gen 3) scored 7,324 and 15.4fps respectively.

We played a few of our sample videos and our heavily encoded 40Mbps video file stuttered and skipped frames during playback. The sound quality through the bundled headset was below average but it improved by leaps and bounds with our reference headphones. The loudspeaker is really loud and doesn't crackle at high volumes. The sound quality in calls is very good and we didn't notice any call drops either.
The 8-megapixel camera's performance is identical to that of the one on the predecessor. Face detection, Geo tagging, Panorama, Touch to focus also available. The 2 MP front camera is even good.
Verdict

There is no denying that the Moto E (Gen 3) is a better bet than its predecessor in terms of performance and because it's more future-ready. However, the Samsung Galaxy J7,Xiaomi Mi5,Lenovo K3,Samsung Galaxy J3 , all have 2GB of RAM and better cameras, making them better value for money overall. But, the software experience on the Moto E (Gen 3) 4G is unparalleled.
